A 22-year-old Pahoa man suspected of forcibly taking another man’s skateboard turned himself in to police Monday.
Gary A. Simpkins was booked at the Hilo police station on suspicion of second-degree robbery. He hadn’t been charged as of Tuesday morning.
According to police, a 19-year-old Pahoa man reported that shortly after 1 a.m. Sept. 20, he was walking near the intersection of Highway 130 and Pahoa Village Road when a white four-door sedan stopped and two men got out and accosted him. The victim reported he was assaulted by one of the men, who forcibly took a skateboard from him before fleeing in the car.
Police are still seeking the second suspect, described as a local male, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, 180 pounds, with black curly hair, who was wearing a T-shirt and shorts.
